Patios, terraces, rooftops and sidewalk seating start here. The category holds 298 pieces, from chairs, tables and bar stools to umbrellas, partitions and heaters. Patio use has to appear on a listing before the piece leaves the building, so read that line first, then think about wind, sun and where everything goes in November.

What can stay out in the weather

Among the 298 pieces on this page, 261 carry a patio listing, and 233 also list indoor use. Six patio pieces are listed for a covered patio only, which means a roof overhead and no open sky. Wood-framed and upholstered indoor chairs fade, swell or rust in the weather, and the warranty leaves that out. Patio chairs, tables and stools carry a limited warranty of six months.

Even the right piece needs a routine: hose it down after a dusty weekend, make sure the water has somewhere to run, and give it a cover or a closet once October turns.

Materials you will actually see

Metal frames form the largest group at 63 pieces. Aluminum follows at 44 and resin at 37, with aluminum that has a bamboo look on 16 and steel on 13. Seats are mostly metal (43 pieces) or resin (39), while faux rattan covers 35 and plastic teak 33. Tabletops lean on resin, aluminum and synthetic teak. Single pieces start around $58.

A few habits help with any of it:

  • Stack when you can: 99 pieces are listed as stackable
  • Watch the wind on a rooftop, where the lightest chair moves first
  • Level every table on brick, cobblestone or deck boards

Where to start

Chairs are the biggest shelf, so open patio chairs first, then patio tables and patio bar stools for the rail. Outdoor furniture sets bundle a table with seating, and the listing tells you what comes in each.

Shade and shelter get their own pages. Patio umbrellas holds the umbrellas and the bases that carry them, patio partitions mark the edge of a terrace, and patio heaters stretch the season at both ends. Where does the sun sit at 6 PM? Answer that before you pick a color.

Plan it by season

A patio is never finished, only reset. Build one plan for opening weekend and a second for the slow months, then copy either forward next spring in Patio plans. Plan the November storage room at the same time as the layout, because a stack of chairs needs somewhere to wait. Standard items spend 14 to 21 business days in production before freight begins, and transit time is only an estimate, so order well ahead of opening weekend.
